Welcome, Willkommen, Howdy, Molo…

9 09 2009
Besides his excellent teaching record, Dr. Taylor is a prolific researcher and superbly productive writer. He seems to have a knack for identifying new developments in film, media and their studies. Dr. Taylor appears to be that rare case of a scholar who is equally strong in teaching as well as academic research…”.

This Weblog page is designed to briefly introduce and then direct to the various and related work activities of Dr. Alan Taylor (Oxon) in the specialist areas of Film Studies and Media Education as these have developed from the UK, to Germany, and Eastern Europe (banner pic, Dr. Diana A. Taylor).

In the light of his recent Autumn 2009 appointment to the Arts Faculty of the Tshwane University of Technology,  South Africa, there will be some tidying up here!

Theory Into Practice

ball-pic.jpgI have focused my teaching on film & media since graduating from both the London Film School and then the Department of Education at Oxford University.

Through this time I have sought for both breadth and depth of teaching practice & pedagogic experience.

This has therefore extended from UK Secondary & Further Education to HE teaching in Europe.  At the core of my pedagogic practice is an abiding enagement with Media Literacy. Publications during this time have therefore included: `We, the media…` and `Jacobean Visions: Webster, Hitchcock & Google Culture`(2007).

My role in South Africa will combine teaching,  community outreach, research, publications & teacher training, beginning September 2009.

As well as professional teacher, I am also a member of the International Federation of Journalists.
